Where I grew up...

I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I moved to Chicago and lived there as a Korean-American for 23 years. In 2022, I returned to Korea to embark on a new journey in my life!

My professional training

I have been an active member of my community throughout my career. I gained experience as an art therapy intern at Evanston Elementary School and Sarah’s Circles homeless shelter, as well as providing valuable services at the KANWIN domestic violence organization. My dedication to healing and personal growth as a mental health professional was showcased in my work at the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital and private practice.

In my therapy practice, I confidently use trauma-informed care and evidence-based techniques. I draw from various theories to provide comprehensive and friendly support to my clients. My approach focuses on promoting positive behavioral changes, effective emotion management, cognitive flexibility, and self-acceptance. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This approach combines various forms of visual arts, such as drawing, painting, and mixed media, with creative dance/movement, drama, and singing. Moreover, I utilize art therapy (AT) to help clients explore and process their emotions and experiences.

My friendly focus as a therapist is to utilize the creative process as a powerful tool for healing and achieving overall wellness. During our therapy sessions, I encourage clients to use creative procceses to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. This approach helps clients gain a better understanding of themselves and improve their well-being. I provide empathy and cultural competence to promote growth and healing, and I am committed to helping my clients achieve their goals. Together, we will create a warm and supportive environment that acknowledges your past, present, and future.

When I'm out of the office...

Outside of the office, I enjoy playing golf and listening to classical music. I travel to different countries in order to experience various cultures and nature, which I find invigorating. I love galleries and museums, as they offer unique perspectives and insights. Walking is my favorite way of self-care, and I find it especially rejuvenating in my favorite places, Samcheong-dong and Seo-chon in Seoul!

My goal is to be a facilitator and a partner in my client’s healing journey, guiding them toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and interpersonal effectiveness. I combine evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, and the transformative power of art to empower you to lead a fulfilling and meaningful life.
